Oral Appliances for Parafunctional Control and Sleep Apnea
“Controlling Parafunctional Forces” How and Why to Use NTI
This lecture presentation will introduce and develop the rationale for use of a uniquely designed anterior deprogramming device for diagnostic, therapeutic, and restorative uses in the general dental practice. This device, approved by the FDA for the treatment and prevention of migraine headaches, also has a much broader application in a restorative and cosmetic dental practice.
Appliances for Sleep Apnea
Patients with sleep apnea experience a temporary cessation of breathing during sleep. These apnea related disturbances occur repeatedly at night, resulting in a restless sleep and daytime drowsiness. The disease can cause serious health issues including increased blood pressure and the restriction of oxygen to the brain and bloodstream. Of the many available oral appliances on the market, two custom made devices, the TAP® and EMA® have had a long history of use in the USA and elsewhere.
